While listening to Big Audio Dynamite's song Rush I started thinking about all the things that have changed in the last year. I know, very strange song to start thinking about life to, but well, sometimes that's the way these things go. The last year has been a crazy, hectic and ultimately awesome year. I've spent it doing what I love, and I can honestly say that I can't imagine doing it any other way. Even with the sometimes sleepless nights because of deadlines, it's always worth it.
But, with the good comes the bad, and I have had quite a lot of loss in terms of family and friends that have passed away this year. To be honest, I don't think any of that hit me until very recently. When you take one hit after the next, you don't really realise what's happened until you get a moment to resurface, at least that's how I felt this week when I got to reflect on the year gone by. Saying that, I'm really grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of those people's lives and have them be a part of mine.
This is a photo of a rose from Nick's grandmother Marisa's funeral last year. We left it hanging upside down to dry. It reminds me of her every time I see it.

I couldn't agree more. I am so fortunate that nobody in my life died, but I did go through some major catastrophes (got hit by a car almost died, then a close family member had a pretty bad stroke right after). And I feel the same way.
It's so true, that's why I love what I do, we get to document people's lives which I think is amazing. Thanks for all the comment love.
ReplyDeleteKyle - I'm so sorry to hear about everything. I hope that you and your family are all doing better and that you're resting lots. I know that I always end up doing way too much and not giving my body enough time to recuperate after... well, any injury. Though mine pale in comparison.
I wish you all a fantastic, and healthy 2010.
Kyle,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo, what beautiful words.
